If a girl has facial hair usually the cause is too much testosterone?

but what if she is estrogen dominant? ive read estrogen dominance also causes facial hair......so how can u tell if its too much testosterone or estrogen dominance (meaning not enough progesterone)causing the facial hair? only blood tests?

and if these hormones are corrected does the facial hair go away or just stop increasing?

hirsitusm may be caused by too much testosterone or lack of estrogen. it may also just be genetic. if you come from a family with lots of dark hair then you'll notice this. need to see your doctor and have him run some tests. if everything is negative then try laser hair removal.

There are blood tests that can determine your hormone levels. I would think that having your hormone levels brought back to a "normal" balance would stop the facial hair growth and possibly most of it would go away.

I do know that shaving would not be a good idea - for some reason shaving seems to promote hair growth.

I had a hormonal imbalance (menopause! lol) .. and the ONLY way to determine which hormones were elevated and which were lower was a blood test.

Good Luck

Having too much estrogen can lead to producing testosterone...which in turn can lead to body hair. You need to go and get a blood test done so that they can test your levels. You could have poly-cystic ovarian syndrome. This is when a female produces too much estrogen, leading to the production of testosterone and then the hair. Other side effects are failure to ovulate and failure to menstruate. Are you having any other problems besides the facial hair?

You will need blood test to tell for sure. No matter what the cause, correcting it unfortunately will not make th hair go away, only stop more coarse dark hair from coming. Facial hair can be caused by a number of things. One of the most common is PCOS. You should see Dr. and treat ASAP if you have PCOS, as it can cause infertility problems later in life along with possibly diabetes and weight problems.

Yes, the cause is always related to testosterone. Normally estrogen and testosterone counteract each other to a considerable extent, but it if you have enough testosterone you're going to have moustache and beard growth no matter how much estrogen you may have.

Once your hair growth pattern turns male and becomes well established the growth is likely to stay, even though you alter tha hormone balance.

Remember that for many women "male-pattern" facial hair is normal for them.
