Facial hair.....a sin?

People of a certain church continuously talked about how having facial hair is a sin.We left that church awhile back, but I am still confused.

Have you ever heard of this? I have always wanted to learn why they thought that way.....

I haven't seen this anywhere else,so I am wondering if you guys have this belief or know people who do.

I know I sound silly,but I am just confused.

Facial hair.....a sin?

Shaving is the sin, at least if you still follow Leviticus.

The church you were at probably just had conservative old-timers who were willing to abuse religion to discriminate against people they don't like.

And some people don't like beards. Hippies had beards. Upstanding community men of the 60s did not have beards. That was how they stood apart.

My grandfather once told me, "Never trust a man with a beard." He saw the youth of the 50s and 60s and concluded that only scoundrels grew beards.

That's probably what your old church comprised of.

Facial hair.....a sin?

What kind of sin?

Facial hair.....a sin?

No women should have facial hair. If it isn't is a sin it should be. That's disgusting.

Facial hair.....a sin?

Considering that Jesus is often pictured with beard, it seems silly to say that you can't have facial hair. Maybe the group was made in the 60's and wanted to get away from that image and get back to the repressive attitude of the 50's. Probably men can't have long hair, either.

Facial hair.....a sin?

no, but unkempt pubic hair for women is.

Facial hair.....a sin?

Yes, I have heard of this, and its gross to have these kind of ideas

Facial hair.....a sin?

Oh my. At first I took this question to refer to women. LOL. I'd be in some deep **** if that were the case. And just think about those of us entering menopause!

Anyway, I've never heard of this. It's certainly the complete opposite of the Amish, so you can rule them out.

Who knows why these crazy people get these crazy ideas? They read something in the bible, it suggests _______ to them, and they make that into law.

Facial hair.....a sin?

yea i have never heard that before. but i guess that church prooves that all men are sinners...lol..

Facial hair.....a sin?

It is okay to have facial hair. I hope you are talking about men though. I do know that the Egyptians shaved all their hair from all of their body back in Abraham's day. Maybe that is where they got it from. I don't know.

Facial hair.....a sin?

Oh, good. Another thing I can burn for.

Facial hair.....a sin?

probably not unless its a goatee

Facial hair.....a sin?

i dont know of such a sin..

Facial hair.....a sin?

Facial hair.....a sin? I knew it.

Facial hair.....a sin?

a lot of thing are sin. Just get over it, i mean judging someone is a sin. If you have facial hair get it laser removed that all. And forget about what those people said at your church.

Facial hair.....a sin?

I'm not sure. Jesus is considered (in reality) to have had short hair on his head and no beard or moustache. I don't know though. Last time we talked, he had a black mohawk.

Facial hair.....a sin?

No, having facial hair is not a sin. And I never heard of that teaching before.

Facial hair.....a sin?

there is nothing written in the bible, regarding facial, anywhere at all!!

it sounds like a form of religion! i'm sorry about the bad experience you've had, i'm glad you've left. i just pray that you continue to seek a realtionship with God! He is in the realtioship business, not religion...

much love and i hope you can find a new body of belivers to get into.

Facial hair.....a sin?

There is a place in the Bible where it talks of not cutting the corners of ones beard.... but that was for the Nation of Israel... There are those who want to interpret this as meaning all men today should have beards... It can not be justified by any who have done indepth Bible study that I have read about... I have recently let the beard grow... but just because I got tired of shaveing with tender winter skin at my age...think I will keep it...but not as a "religious" act... just don't want to shave...

Facial hair.....a sin?

Sounds like a bunch of fruitcakes to me, honey. Leave that bunch to their shaving creams and depilatories. Find a Church that teaches about Jesus, from the Bible. Many are off track today and you must be wise. Study your Bible and be not confused. Go to www.ttb.org for good sound Bible teachings, you can listen on radio or online. God bless

Facial hair.....a sin?

I think men should look like men; whether they choose to be clean-shaven or with a moustache and beard. Of course, if you're talking about WOMEN, might I suggest a little upper lip waxing?

lol

EDIT:

It says in the Bible that they plucked Jesus' beard when they scorned Him. If it wasn't a long beard, they would have needed tweezers to pluck it...!

Facial hair.....a sin?

it is not a sin God gave us hair. Islam teaches it is sin for women to have hair on their lower body legs and so forth that is stupid. men tend to have beard in many churches. I have never heard it is a sin if it grows on your body it is from God.

Facial hair.....a sin?

I agree, it should be a sin for women to have visible facial hair. Seriously though, I don't think anything external determines a person's salvation or destiny after death. People are in constant search for spiritual guidance and prescription simply because they don't see themselves capable enough to find answers on their own, and perhaps we aren't, at least not all the time, hence there will always be religious and spiritual groups out there who will succeed in gaining members no matter how illogical their teachings may be. It's great that you have left that church, but I hope you've learned something good from your experience. I also hope that you do not stop searching, thinking you've found the right path. The truth is larger and more beautiful than any one religion will lead you to believe.

Facial hair.....a sin?

Be cool ! I never heard of this... What religion??

But be cool,, beards can be dirty and going back a century,, well the cowboys didn't have time to bathe often..

When towns grew ,, into cities ,,and then into metropolis's,, sin came out of the wood work. It was stupid but we got it today.

remember the cowboy and the city jerk "better than you"..

You understand sin %26gt;%26gt; an insult to our God%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

How be that! He/She is a bigger jokester than I.

You gota take this life as a joke or what the heII.

Facial hair.....a sin?

I can see where they were coming from.

They believe -- as have most orthodox Christian churches over the centuries that the Bible teaches that there are distinct roles for men and others for women and that the disitnction between men and women shouldn't be blurred. And they presumably believe that that distinction should be carried over into appearance, dress etc.

Facial hair on a woman would be making her look male and therefore be wrong,

Now of course the reality for most women is that when you reach around 30 your estrogen levels begin to drop and if you've got skin that's sensitized to testosterone AND you have moderate to high testosterone levels, your hormone balance begins gradually to shift towards testosterone-dominated.

Facial (and also body) hair on women comes about in the same way as on men because of

1) your body being sensitized, before you were even born, to testosterone -- doesn't happen to all girls, but does to many

2) your body producing high levels of testosterone

The growth rate and coarseness of the hair depends on just how much testosterone is circulating in your bloodstream.

Some women are more masculine than others. But I guess they were reckoning that even women who have moustache or beard growth should shave it to make themselves appear more female and therefore show their acceptance of the female role. Convenersely tehy'd reckon that a woman who wouldn't shave her facial hair would be attempting to take on roles that rightly belonged to males.
